Virginia HB1969 will be considered tomorrow in the full House Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee. If it is reported out favorably, it will move toward scheduling and vote in the full House.
Full Committee Hearing
After an uncontested favorable report out of subcommittee, HB1969 will be considered in the full Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, starting at 9:30am. It’s possible it will be voted out favorably along with other bills as a group, depending on whether there is unanimous consent to do so. To date, there has been no known opposition to the bill.
As in the prior hearings, the full committee also has a full agenda, with more than fifty bills to consider. House bills must be reported out favorably and pass the House by February 7 in order to be considered in the Senate.
Amendment to HB1969
The bill has been amended to name the correct agency to release the adopted person’s own original birth certificate. It was the only amendment to the bill. The text of the bill and the amendment is here.
