We are pleased to announce that the American Adoption Congress (AAC) has joined the Capitol Coalition for Adoptee Rights as a core partner.
The AAC brings to the coalition its advocacy work and long commitment to serving adoptees, adoptive parents, and birthparents, in addition to working on important adoption reform issues. The AAC was critical in the successful effort to secure equal rights for adult adoptees in New York and has been involved in legislative efforts on numerous issues for decades.
“We are very pleased today to join the Capitol Coalition for Adoptee Rights in order to restore adoptee equality in Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C.,” said Tim Monti-Wohlpart, the AAC’s National Legislative Chair and New York State Representative. “Our collective efforts are a human and civil rights imperative which are appropriate for every square inch of the United States. In that spirit we continue, along with our partners, and proudly look forward to continued success in the U.S. Capitol region.”
“Adoptees, their families, and their friends are in every constituent district across the country,” said Susie Stricker, head of Maryland Adoptee Rights, one of four core partners in the coalition. “We welcome the American Adoption Congress to our fight here as we work to secure equality through HB1039 and SB743 in the Maryland legislature.”
The American Adoption Congress is an international organization devoted to family connections by providing education for all members of the adoption constellation as well as professionals involved in adoption, foster care, and assisted reproduction.
The Capitol Coalition of Adoptee Rights is a coalition of organizations and allies in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland, working to secure equal rights for all adult adopted people who were born or adopted in the region. Its current core partners include Maryland Adoptee Rights, Adoptee Rights Law Center, American Adoption Congress, and Bastard Nation: The Adoptee Rights Organization. Read more here.
